Dash 8 Q400 aircraft Plane crash, [Flight 3407]

13 Febuary 2009

The twin-prop Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, operated by Colgan Air, was flying from Newark airport in New Jersey to Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

There seems to be no communication of any problems by pilot or the controller before the plane carrying 49 persons disappeared of the radar and was unable to be contacted.

Other planes in the area were asked if they could see the missing plane.

David Luce, who lives 150 yards from the crash site, "It sounded quite loud, and then the sound stopped," ... "Then one or two seconds later, there was a thunderous explosion. I thought something hit our house. It shook our whole house." ... "There was the initial boom, and then these cannon shots ... these loud secondary explosions, and they went on for about 10 minutes. " ... "The house was already flattened. There was no house, just a pile of rubbish and still burning."

At 03:20GMT the plane had dropped in to an occupied house.

Brendan Biddlecome, "What I saw was what appeared to be a massive fire than engulfed an entire home and part of another home but I didn't see the plane hit itself. " ... "I certainly heard and felt it going down. I was in my house and at the time I had just put my children to bed. " ... "I sat down for a moment and heard a little buzzing sound. I knew it was a plane but I knew also knew something was not right. The plane sounded close overhead. It was something you wouldn't normally hear. " ... "I immediately thought 'that sounds like a plane going down.' Instantaneously there was an explosion and the house shook in its foundations. " ... "At first I wanted to make sure my children were ok, then I made my way outside and I thought for a moment 'maybe it was just something different.' " ... "Then there was a second explosion. It crashed into a home and took out another part of a home. "

There were apparently three people in the house that was hit. One died and the other two managed to escape, with apparently minor injuries. Other reports say there was just one person in the house at the time.
